i’ve seen some pollution in my day.
i’ve eaten Tokyo crackers, individually wrapped, then wrapped in bundles of 4s, then 8s, in 2 columns, in a double-wrapped container. i’ve seen mounds of litter cradling decaying street cats in Athens. i’ve swooned on the belched fumes of mile-long parades of punch-buggy taxis in Mexico City.
so as i sit here dilligently peeling away all the scotch tape applicants have slathered all over their envelopes (and as a side note: what, where they afraid the application would attempt a getaway? what is with the obsessive amount of tape? sometimes i wonder if they even want us to be able to open them…), as i sit here peeling away each strip of tape, tearing out each plastic business-envelope window, i can't help but wonder: what’s the fucking point!?

Absract hands and abstract voices are components of the crowd. A force all of us who strive to be individual must battle daily. We combat those who litter, those who loot, and those who follow shallow minded heros on tv. However, one voice aloud carries more clarity and meaning than 100 voices.
Fret not, just remember that misery is temporary. and that some day your voice will be heard...unless someone tapes it shut.
i assume you're doing this for recyling purposes. point of interest, you don't need to remove the windows to recycle them (at least not in bc).
(this of course doesn't make overpackaging suck any less)

hm, interesting about the windows - i've been in similar debates before and frankly i'm confused.
ok first of all, i'm in toronto, and they suck for recycling. they only just added plastic "tubs" (like margarine) and lids. pathetic. anyway.
as for the envelope windows, i thought some were being made differently and therefore were recyclable. i understood (and have seen with my own eyes) that those envelopes have little recycling symbols to indicate the window is made with the fancy new paperish plastic, unlike the old school pure ick plastic windows, so it was ok to go forth and recycle. windows not displaying the logo still required the removal of the plastic. am i wrong? not unlikely, but enquiring minds want to know!
and anonymous #1 - thanks for your words, and for picking up my metaphoric subtleties. : )
I'm rather shocked that we still have those people - uber-christian ones - who feel that criticism is their way to correct the world.
Kaen, I'm proud of you as someone who enjoys life and takes it to the fullest. Keep on posting and tell these god-fearing people to leave their values at the door.
